Together with the General Pensionfund of Curaçao (APC), the Heritage Plaza Consortium (HPC) worked on the redevelopment of the Plaza Hotel Curaçao in Willemstad. Hotel, public space and water fort will be transformed into an attractive place where residents and visitors can stay together, with space for housing, hotels, educational institutions, an economic incubator and a complementary cultural programme.

The ambitions extend (much) further than just the redevelopment of a decayed hotel. Above all, the redevelopment is also a great opportunity to socio-economically strengthen the entire island of Curaçao, and in particular the historic city centre (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

We advised HPC in the development of this location, focusing primarily on cultural programming aimed at strengthening the island’s cultural infrastructure. The ambition was to make an important contribution to opportunities for talent development of local artists and performers. Curaçao has very many talented artists and performers, but almost no well-equipped stage and exhibition facilities or cultural incubators. Facilities that are crucial for the further development of artistic talents.
