'Future meets heritage': a home for books and talent

Huis73 is the vibrant heart of culture and education in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. A place where creativity, knowledge and encounters come together. From libraries and workshops to exhibitions and talent development – for young and old, and everyone in between. Huis73 inspires, stimulates and connects.

But the building is in need of renovation. The current accommodation is outdated and no longer fits in with today’s ambitions. That is why the municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch has opted for a thorough renovation. The characteristic buildings will be radically redeveloped, so that Huis73 becomes a future-proof place for culture, learning and creative talent.

Our Role

  • Developer on behalf of owner (delegated principal)
  • Stakeholder management
  • Analyzing and involving user
  • Manage design and build team
  • Aftercare
Hinthamerstraat 72 began in the 13th century as a poorhouse and later became a retirement home and library. Number 74 was once the bishop's palace and subsequently served as a command post, courthouse and school. Since 1965, it has been used as a centre for cultural education.
The Right Angle

Built on the past, focused on tomorrow

Huis73 is housed in two national monuments whose history dates back to the 13th century. For centuries, these buildings fulfilled social and cultural functions – a story to which we are adding a new chapter. The characteristic facades and authentic beamed ceilings still form the backdrop to this special place.

The renovation takes the building to a higher level. Think of sustainable interventions, maintenance and a well-thought-out new layout. The eye-catcher will be the completely renovated interior, with the return of a historic courtyard and the visibility of unique heritage elements. In this way, the past not only has a place in the building, but also in the experience of every visitor.

Pro in Proces

Tailor-made and precision work

The new Huis73 will be a vibrant place where residents and visitors are encouraged to explore, learn and collaborate. It will bring together a library, creative workshops, exhibitions and education – a powerful mix for talent development and social connection.

The municipality has appointed STEAD as project manager to supervise the entire process: from initiative to completion. As delegated principle, we ensure a smooth process, monitor progress, involve end-users and deliver truly customised solutions that match the ambitions of Huis73.

The location, in the heart of the historic city centre, makes this project extra special – and complex. Construction logistics and transport in this environment require precision work. Thanks to careful preparation and close coordination with all parties involved, we are limiting disruption and creating a unique place for all residents of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
