The Schielandshuis was originally built as accommodation for the Schieland Water Board. The national monument is one of the most historic buildings in Rotterdam and has had many different functions over time. For example, the building housed a theater and was once the first accommodation of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Until 2013, the building was used as a city museum.
Commissioned by the Rotterdam city marketing organization Rotterdam Partners and the municipality of Rotterdam, we developed the Schielandshuis into a ‘House of the City’. We carefully transformed the predominantly closed building into an inviting open building. The result is a fantastic meeting place for anyone interested in the city of Rotterdam. The “House of the City” offers space to the offices of Rotterdam Partners, the Tourist Office of Rotterdam, Restaurant Het Schielandshuis, the unique museum Atlas van Stolk and the Rotterdam Council for Art and Culture.
